Chess Club for Kids! • Join us for a fun and interactive chess club for kids in grades 1st – 6th. • Meet new friends, learn new strategies, and improve your chess skills. • This program is completely free and open to all kids in the area. • No registration is required, just show up with your parents or guardians. Kids are welcome to come and learn how to play chess in a relaxed and supportive environment. Our chess club is designed to be fun and engaging, with a focus on developing the skills and confidence of young players. From the basics of how to move the pieces to more advanced strategies, we will cover it all in a way that’s easy to understand and enjoy. • Some of the key benefits of playing chess include:

• Join us on Monday, April 14, from 3 – 5 p.m. in the teen area, where you can meet other kids who share your interest in chess. No registration is required, and we’ll provide the chessboards and pieces. • The club will meet on a regular basis, with new sessions running every few weeks. • Get ready to refresh your bookshelves and pick up some new titles! • The Spring Book Swap will take place on Monday, April 14, from 5 – 6:30 p.m. • Drop off your gently used books at the library between April 7 – 12, and pick up a book swap ticket for each book you bring in. • Bring your tickets back on April 14 to pick out new books from the swap to take home! • Books should be in good condition, clean, and gently used. We encourage you to get creative with your bookshelf organization and try out some new display ideas! Library Book Sale
• Support your library and pick up some great deals on books! • The Library Book Sale will take place on April 15 and 16, from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. • Cash and personal check will be accepted, and proceeds will go towards supporting library programs and projects. • Some highlights of the book sale include:

• Children’s books and young adult fiction
• Non-fiction and self-help titles
• Staff picks and recommendations
FCCLA Easter Egg Hunt
• Join us for an egg-cellent Easter egg hunt! • The FCCLA Easter Egg Hunt will take place on Friday, April 18, from noon to 1 p.m. • Come and find the hidden eggs filled with candy and other treats! • This event is open to all students and community members, and is a great opportunity to meet new people and have fun. Prohibition & Iowa’s Bootlegging Legacy
• Get ready for a fascinating journey through Iowa’s Prohibition history! • Join author and historian, Bill Douglas, on Tuesday, April 22, at 5:30 p.m. for a discussion of the diverse religious beliefs that shaped Iowa’s history and people. • The presentation will be followed by a book signing and sales of his new book, The People are Kind: A Religious History of Iowa. • Some highlights of the presentation include:
• The role of indigenous peoples in Iowa’s history
• The impact of immigration and cultural exchange on Iowa’s development
• The diversity of Iowa’s congregations and the ways in which they contributed to the state’s history
• This program is free to attend and open to the public, and is a great opportunity to learn about Iowa’s rich history and culture.
