The 21st edition of the Erode Book Festival is being held ahead of the Erode Book Festival 2025. The Collector of Erode district launched a district-wide book reading movement as part of the festival.

The Collector read books with students for 21 minutes to emphasize the joy and importance of reading. As part of the initiative, 1.6 lakh school and college students across the district participated in the book reading movement.

The festival is being jointly organised by the Department of Public Libraries and Makkal Sinthanai Peravai.

The Collector also shared inspiring sayings such as β€œLet’s read books to build a better world” and β€œTouching a book may feel like paper, but reading it continuously turns it into a weapon of success”.

β€œReading a book is like touching a flower, but not just for a moment. You have to nurture it and care for it over time,”

said the Collector, emphasizing the value of reading in personal and intellectual growth.

β€œBooks are not just a source of entertainment, but also a means to learn, to grow, and to make a difference in the world,”

he said, highlighting the significance of reading in shaping our thoughts, ideas, and actions.

he added, emphasizing the importance of reading in fostering a culture of critical thinking, tolerance, and open-mindedness.

The Collector also highlighted the importance of public libraries in promoting reading habits, saying β€œPublic libraries are the lifeblood of our democracy.”
