Central Alabama libraries celebrate Library Card Sign – Up Month

This month-long celebration aims to encourage and promote the use of libraries and their resources. It’s a time for libraries to showcase their diverse offerings, from books and audiobooks to digital resources, and for individuals to discover the many benefits of library membership. The American Library Association (ALA) has been instrumental in promoting Library Card Sign-Up Month.

“We have lots of free resources, we have lots of free books you can check out, we have DVDs, we have games,” said Parnell Memorial Library Director Marissa Wilson. “We have the Libby app, which is like an online library, and we have Hoopla, where you can get audiobooks and movies. Different library branches have different services.” Homewood Patriot Band drawing national attention with halftime performance The Parnell Memorial Library also offers multiple programs for all ages to participate in. “We do Family Fun Night every month, we have book clubs, we have preschool programs, starting next month we’re going to start senior citizen activities,” Wilson said.

This initiative is a unique way to address food insecurity in the community while also promoting literacy and access to information. The Homewood Public Library is also hosting a series of events throughout September called “Read to Me” for children. This program aims to foster a love of reading in young children by encouraging parents and caregivers to read aloud to their children.

This is a significant advantage for patrons who need to access materials not available at their local library. The Jefferson County Public Library system is a comprehensive and diverse system, offering a wide range of services and resources to its patrons. The library system is committed to providing equal access to information and resources for all members of the community.
